Sara and I Are At the World Cup

No, we’re not sitting in the stands. We’re not even huge soccer (or football) fans. And we’re not even in South Africa at the moment. We are home in California getting ready to leave for England next week.

But St John’s Parish near Cape Town published a magazine called This Life, which they’ve put out throughout the city to spread the Gospel while the country is inundated with tourists for the World Cup. The editor did a two-page spread on our time there last October with quotes from some of our discussions and a brief interview. Yes, that’s us on the bottom right of the cover.

The article is titled, “I’m In Recovery from Religion” and exposes people to some of my books and my passion for people to live in relationship with God. I don’t know that I’ve ever been called “quietly spoken” before, but I like the looks of it in print. Anyway, I thought others, especially our South African friends would like to have a look at it.

I think “quietly spoken” works

I seem to remember “long winded” also on a recent trip

But hey – Cats are God’s creatures too! Great companions and much less maintenance than dogs….and they keep u warm in winter!

Great article, Wayne! I had to chuckle over the comment about engaging with those whom the Lord brings across your path on a day to day basis. Today, we had a single mom show up and visit with us for nearly an hour. And then there was the furniture transaction (getting ready for the move, ya know) that lead to over an hour of sharing with other believers.

Jay and I would have rather collapsed with a nap this afternoon but we are learning to find God in these unexpected moments. And that, dear brother, is something you’ve helped us understand.

What’s especially cool is reading a piece like that and knowing you are the real deal. There’s not a “public relations” Wayne and then the “real” Wayne. Your transparency is refreshing.

I got a chuckle at the title of the entry. I was watching Denmark play and one of the players on the team was Jacobsen.
