Triumph from Tragedy

Someone sent me this link today and I was met with an incredibly inspiring movie of how believing a lie can devour our lives, and discovering the truth can transform even the most painful circumstances: The Butterfly Circus

I have no idea who is behind this, or what their intended meaning was. I can’t imagine that it wasn’t a redemptive portrayal. At least that’s how it resonated with me. This touched me far more than Avatar, for which I paid far more.

ADDED NOTE: I guess I do know these people. Just found out from Brad, my partner over at The God Journey that he is involved with the folks who made this movie and they are dear brothers and sisters with a passion to tell powerful stories of God’s work in the world. So, for those of you who think Brad and I share everything with each other, it’s pretty clear we don’t. I had never heard of this before today and am so blessed to find out that I’m only one degree of separation away from those involved… How cool is that?

Wow. I realize the theme of truth versus lies has been weaving its way through my life in a profound way over the past year or two. This film is such a beautiful illustration of the power of believing the truth versus believing lies. It makes it seem like Jesus was right about the freedom in believing the truth.

I Just found out that the lead actor in the film Nick Vujicic’s has his own website: http://www.lifewithoutlimbs.org/ and an article in Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nick_Vujicic and offers quite a testimony of his own transformation through the life and love of Jesus. Pretty cool!

I just posted that link on Facebook; what an amazing movie. Thanks for sharing it. I just watched it with my daughter.
And yes, Nick is so very inspiring. There are several clips of some of his presentations on youtube. Have tissues handy when you listen to this young man.

O my goodness! Thankyou so much Wayne for sharing this short film…. I cried through it! What an incredible picture of the heart of the Father….. when Mendez looked at that man, and exclaimed in true admiration, ” You are marvelous.” I couldn’t help but see me in that limbless man.

Thanks from me too, Wayne. I saw myself throughout the film, but especially when the limbless man was left to cross the stream alone. How that hurt to watch! That has been my most recent lie, that it’s ok to be self-pitying. Father loves me even when he “walks away” as I cry out to him (I know he never leaves me, but it sure feels like it sometimes.) I do not have this figured out at all, but there is beginning to be a glimmer in my mind. This film helped to pour more hope into me. thank you.

I loved this short film. Just so much in it about leaving shame behind. I loved the scene where the showmaster comes to Will(the limbless man) and says you are magnificent. Mmmm much to ponder, how many of us have been lied to, by religion. Father sees us as magnificent. Great reflections for the start of the week. Jess and I were both in tears by the end of it. Thanks Wayne.

Truly awesome! The portrayal of Papa’s love for those that the world would throw away is amazing. This is how we were before and many of us see ourselves, but Papa looks at us and says, “You’re magnificent!”
He is totally accepting and loves us.

I must say I cried through this a couple of times and have since shared it with my wife and daughter.

Wow, my two boys and I watched this yesturday and were very moved! Later my 13 year old said to his dad it was a really good movie, and he liked it! It’s so refreshing to see a clean, well acted movie that has such an amazing message of hope and inspiration! It’s such a picture of “living loved” and how that lives out in the “real” world that is hurting and bitter and down and out! And, the difference it makes in peoples lives to be touched by Father’s and Jesus love through us, just people!

What a great story. I used it in some ESL classes that I teach at college. The students loved it and it is proving to be a great movie to get them talking and writing about something that touches all of our lives in a very profound way.
