Understanding Grace

I guess this is a milestone. This is the first YouTube link I’ve ever put on my blog. But you will be deeply touched by this. An outreach team from New Jerusalem Mission (see below) just returned from a trip to Central Africa and here is a video that some on that team put together. It is not like any other video you’ve ever seen about this crisis and how you can help. Listen carefully to the words. You will hear amazing words of life, such as,

Sometimes in an effort to remind people of the cost of the cross, we withhold grace until we are sure they understand their sin. But it is in giving of our grace that we remind people that they need to go to Jesus to find their own. People understand their sin without our help. Itâ€™s grace they need help in understanding.

I’ve not heard it put any better. Just hearing it gave me chills. This is how we are called to live in the world in the face of all kinds of human need and suffering.

If you’re a regular reader of this blog you know of my link to the AIDs mission based near Wichita Kansas, New Jerusalem Missions. They are not only preparing a live-in facility for those living with AIDs, but teams from there are doing training and mercy missions around the world including Africa and China. If this is your passion, join them. If you can’t join them and have some extra dollars around, send it to them! They operate on the shortest shoestring I’ve ever seen. They are frugal, responsible and giving themselves wholeheartedly to the task God has given them to do.

And whether you can join them or not, share with them financially or not, let’s all live this way in the world.

People understand their sin. Let’s help them understand grace!

I saw the devestation that HIV/AIDS can bring when we fostered an 18 month old girl dying from HIV. The drugs literally kept her alive. The hospital did not want to release her to us because who would want to have someone else’s child die in your home. They finally released her to us and we cared for her until she died 3 months later. I look forward to seeing her in heaven in a new body without pain.

People understand their sin without our help. Itâ€™s grace they need help in understanding.

I find this statement as one of the best descriptions of the most profound truth the world is in need of hearing today. The Church so needs to understand this. By focusing on sin in the person, grace takes a back seat or even worse is destroyed. The offering of grace eventually breaks the back of sin. The difference here is so stunning. We know sin inside and out. Very few understand grace.

Wayne I loved that comment on grace. Boy the world sure needs to hear that. I found the numbers of aids victims staggering. I had known the numbers but how easily it is to forget. Couldn’t help but reflect that during 2005 while I was still part of a religious club(loosely) I didn’t hear this topic mentioned once. What a travesty. But I did hear lots about tithing…Oops thought I was over that experience. What an brutal human tragedy. God help us change our hearts..Jon

some friends of mine traveled in africa this year and experienced the aids crisis firsthand. crisis isn’t even the word for what is happening on that continent. the depth and breadth of the problem is so great it staggers the mind. god help us….help us help them.

You wouldn’t happen to know if they have a downloadable version available somewhere do you? It’d be great to be able to put it on a disc to take and show others.
